VACCINES

Getting vaccinated is one of many important steps we can take to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19, as well as to help end the pandemic as a country. It’s important because this virus can cause severe illness or death for many, including people who may not be able to be vaccinated.

HOW VACCINES WORK

21-21.png

Vaccines work with our immune systems to train our bodies to fight the virus in the event of exposure. Taking additional steps like wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequently washing hands, also helps to reduce our chances of being exposed to COVID-19 and spreading it to others.

INNOVATION LEADS TO VACCINES AND MORE

Science has delivered – repeatedly – in the form of innovation for vaccines. Scientists developed multiple safe and effective vaccines in record time based on decades of research and development that is not only protecting people now but will into the future.

Covid-19 vaccines exist today thanks to scientists around the globe who already knew a lot about coronaviruses from studying and dealing with SARS and MERS – and spending more than three decades studying the technology that underpins the available vaccines. Beyond the vaccines, innovation and prevention better positions the world to get ahead of future pandemics.
